The Varzea Thrush is a recently described species of thrush endemic to the Amazon floodplain forests of Brazil and Peru. It is a rather plain brown thrush, well-adapted to its unique flooded forest habitat.
Where to spot
Varzea forests (seasonally flooded forests) in the western Amazon basin of Brazil and eastern Peru.
How to spot
Requires navigating flooded forest environments, often by boat. Look in the understory and mid-story of these unique forests. Listening for its calls may aid in detection.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day.
