Where to spot
Widespread in humid lowland forests and forest edges across Central America and northern South America, from Honduras south to Bolivia and Brazil.

Look for males at lek sites in the forest understory. The male's brilliant white crown against its black body is unmistakable. Listen for its characteristic calls and wing sounds.

Active throughout the day, with peak display activity in the early morning. Observable year-round.
