The Golden-bellied Dacnis is a vibrant, small tanager. Males feature a glossy black head and back with brilliant golden-yellow underparts, and iridescent blue on the wings and rump. Females are duller.
Where to spot
Humid lowland forests and forest edges of western Colombia and eastern Panama.
How to spot
Look for it in mixed-species flocks in the canopy. The male's distinctive golden belly is a key identifying feature.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active in the morning.
