The Vinaceous Amazon is a striking large parrot from the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, characterized by its vinous (wine-colored) breast and red wing patches. It is an endangered species.
Where to spot
Humid Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil and adjacent parts of Paraguay and Argentina. Prefers primary and mature secondary forests, especially those with araucaria trees.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive vinous breast and red wing patch. Listen for its loud, deep calls. Requires patient searching in its diminishing habitat.
When to spot
Best observed during early morning or late afternoon when foraging. Observation is challenging due to its endangered status. It is a resident.
