High-altitude montane forests and shrubland of the Andes, from Colombia south to Bolivia.

Look for it actively gleaning insects from foliage, often hanging upside down like a tit. Its small size, short tail, and soft blue-gray plumage are key features.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active in the morning.
Its common name highlights its morphological and behavioral resemblance to true tits (family Paridae), even though it is genetically a tanager, a case of convergent evolution.
