The Tawny Eagle is a large, powerful eagle found across Africa and parts of Asia, characterized by its variable brown plumage and relatively broad wings. It is a versatile raptor, acting as a scavenger, kleptoparasite, and hunter.
Where to spot
Open savannas, grasslands, semi-deserts, and arid regions across sub-Saharan Africa and parts of the Middle East, India, and central Asia.
How to spot
Look for its large size and variable brown plumage (ranging from pale tawny to dark brown). It has broad wings and a relatively short tail. Often seen around carcasses or scavenging opportunities, often in pairs.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight. Often seen soaring or perched on trees, rocks, or even on the ground, especially near carcasses.
