The Taita Falcon is a small to medium-sized, rare and highly localized falcon found in rocky areas of eastern and southern Africa. It is known for its incredible speed and agile pursuit of birds.
Where to spot
Rocky gorges, cliffs, and mountainous areas, often near water, in scattered locations across eastern and southern Africa (e.g., Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa).
How to spot
Look for its dark slate-grey upperparts, white underparts with rufous flanks, and a prominent rufous nape patch. Its flight is extremely fast and powerful. Best located by surveying suitable cliff habitats.

Active during the day. Observations are challenging due to its rarity and often remote habitat.
