Spotted
The Swift Parrot is a critically endangered, slender parrot endemic to southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It is characterized by its bright green plumage, red face, and pointed tail, giving it a streamlined appearance.
Where to spot
Breeds in Tasmania and migrates to temperate woodlands and forests of southeastern Australia (Victoria and New South Wales) for the non-breeding season. Relies heavily on flowering eucalyptus trees.
How to spot
Look for its swift, direct flight and streamlined body. Identify by its bright green plumage, red facial markings, and pointed tail. Listen for its high-pitched, metallic 'clink-clink' calls, especially while feeding on nectar.
When to spot
Migratory: breeds in Tasmania during the Australian summer (September-February) and overwinters on mainland Australia (March-August). Active during daylight, especially when feeding on nectar.
