Spotted
This distinct fantail species is known for its relatively drab plumage compared to some of its more colorful relatives, often featuring shades of brown and grey. It is an active insectivore, constantly on the move through the forest understory. Its broad, fanned tail is characteristic of the fantail family.
Where to spot
Endemic to Seram Island in Indonesia, where it inhabits tropical moist lowland forests and montane forests. It can be found from sea level up to higher elevations.
How to spot
Search for it in dense forest habitats. Look for its typical fantail behavior of flitting and fanning its tail. Its vocalizations can help locate it, though it can be inconspicuous.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, particularly in the morning when it is most vocal and engaged in foraging activities. It is a resident species.
The Cerf Island Fantail is quite rare and poorly known, with its limited distribution making it a special find for birdwatchers.
