The Superb Starling is an iconic East African bird, celebrated for its striking plumage featuring iridescent blue-green upperparts, a rufous belly, and a stark white breast band separating the two. It has a bright yellow eye.
Where to spot
Widespread in East Africa, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, inhabiting savannas, open woodlands, cultivated areas, and urban gardens.
How to spot
Its unmistakable color pattern of blue, white, and rufous, combined with a yellow eye, makes it easy to identify. Look for them on the ground or perched in trees and on buildings.
When to spot
Easily observed throughout the day, as they are often foraging in open areas or perched conspicuously. Resident and common in many areas.
