A captivating blue robin endemic to the Greater Sunda Islands, with the male displaying rich blue and black plumage. It is a forest understory bird.
Where to spot
Montane forests on Sumatra, Java, and Borneo (Indonesia), often in dense undergrowth.
How to spot
Look for it in shaded, damp areas of the forest. Males are quite striking, while females are more camouflaged. Listen for its song.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal in the early morning and late afternoon.
The female of this species is much duller than the male, showcasing sexual dimorphism common in many colorful robin species.
