Gould's Redstart is a large and robust redstart species, with males exhibiting a complex pattern of black, white, and rufous, including a prominent white wing patch. Females are duller brown.
Where to spot
Breeds in the high mountains of Central Asia, including parts of the Himalayas, Tibet, and China, typically above the tree line in rocky, alpine terrain. Winters at lower elevations.
How to spot
During summer, look for it on high rocky slopes, boulder fields, and alpine meadows. In winter, search valleys and cultivated areas. Its larger size and prominent white wing patch are good identification clues.
