Hellmayr's Spinetail is a small, brownish Furnariid with subtle plumage variations. It is an inhabitant of humid montane forests.

Endemic to the humid montane forests of the Venezuelan Coastal Range and the Andes of northern Venezuela, typically at mid-elevations.
