Spotted
The Spot-throat is a distinctive and secretive passerine of East Africa, named for its white, dark-spotted throat. It is typically found in dense forest undergrowth.
Where to spot
Found in montane forests of East Africa, including Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique, typically in humid, dense undergrowth.
How to spot
Search in dense forest undergrowth. It is very shy and difficult to see. Listening for its characteristic song is often the best way to locate it, and then patience is needed to glimpse it among the foliage.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season (varies by region, often during rainy seasons) when males are establishing territories.
Its melodious and complex song, often delivered from within dense vegetation, is far-carrying and a key identifier in its forest habitat.
