Spotted
The Spot-crowned Antvireo is a small, distinctive antvireo, named for the subtle white spotting on its crown. It inhabits humid lowland and foothill forests.
Where to spot
Mid-story and understory of humid lowland and foothill evergreen forests, often in vine tangles or secondary growth, across parts of Central America (e.g., Costa Rica, Panama) and Colombia.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'chip-chip-chip' calls. Scan the dense foliage carefully. They can be part of mixed-species flocks, moving actively through the vegetation.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Calls are frequent, especially during the breeding season.
