Spix's Spinetail is a common and widespread ovenbird with a dull brownish plumage. It is a highly adaptable species found in a variety of disturbed and edge habitats.
Where to spot
Forest edges, secondary growth, dense scrub, coffee plantations, and gardens throughout much of South America east of the Andes.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, descending trill, often given from a hidden perch. Look for movements in dense, low vegetation. Patience may be needed for a clear view.
When to spot
Year-round. Very vocal during the breeding season. Active in early mornings and late afternoons.
