Spix's Spinetail is a common and widespread ovenbird with a dull brownish plumage. It is a highly adaptable species found in a variety of disturbed and edge habitats.

Forest edges, secondary growth, dense scrub, coffee plantations, and gardens throughout much of South America east of the Andes.
