Spotted
The Recurve-billed Shrike is a very rare and enigmatic bird, characterized by its unusual, recurved bill and bristly forehead. It is a secretive inhabitant of humid lowland forests.
Where to spot
Dense undergrowth and vine tangles within humid lowland rainforests, particularly near streams or in areas with thick bamboo, in a very restricted range in northeastern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela.
How to spot
Requires significant effort and a highly experienced local guide familiar with its specific vocalizations and habitat. Listen for any unique calls. Be prepared for long waits and minimal disturbance.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Observation is extremely challenging due to its rarity and secretive nature. Best chances are during early morning, but any sighting is highly fortuitous.
