The Spectacled Monarch is a widespread and common species found in eastern Indonesia and Australia. It is characterized by a prominent black eye-ring or 'spectacle' and rufous underparts.

Widespread across eastern Indonesia (Sulawesi, Moluccas, Lesser Sundas) and northern/eastern Australia. Inhabits rainforests, woodlands, and mangroves.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive black 'spectacles' around the eye and its rufous underparts. Scan the mid-story and canopy of forested areas. Listen for its harsh, chattering calls and clear whistles.

Year-round resident. Most active during the day, particularly in the mornings and late afternoons.
