The Southern House Wren is a highly adaptable and widespread wren species across South and Central America. It is a small, plain brown bird often found in areas near human habitation.
Where to spot
Found throughout Central and South America, from southern Mexico south to Tierra del Fuego. Inhabits open woodlands, scrub, gardens, agricultural areas, and human settlements.
How to spot
Look for a small, plain brown wren with a short, often cocked tail. Listen for its loud, energetic, and often jumbled song, commonly heard in a variety of open habitats.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active and vocal during the early morning and late afternoon, especially during the breeding season.
