Spotted
A small, attractive flycatcher with a distinctive rufous throat patch (gorget), found in dense montane forests. It is a secretive bird.
Where to spot
Dense undergrowth of montane forests in the Himalayas, parts of China, and Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Listen for its soft, wistful calls. It tends to stay in the darker, lower strata of the forest, so patience is required for a clear view.
When to spot
Year-round resident in most areas. Most vocal and active in the early morning.
This species is often distinguished from similar flycatchers by subtle differences in its vocalizations and plumage details.
