Where to spot
Breeds in southeastern Siberia and northeastern China. Winters in southern China, Korea, and Japan, often in reedbeds and open wetlands.
How to spot
Look for it foraging in open grassy areas or reedbeds. Note its streaky brown plumage and the unmarked pale rump, which is visible in flight. Listen for its simple calls.
