The Grey-headed Babbler is a common and widespread species, recognizable by its grey head contrasting with an olive-brown body. It's an active resident of forests and secondary growth.
Where to spot
Widespread across Southeast Asia, including Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, and other smaller islands. It inhabits lowland and submontane evergreen and secondary forests.
How to spot
Look for its grey head, often with a white eye-ring. It moves actively through the mid-story and undergrowth. Listen for its varied vocalizations, including high-pitched whistles and chatter.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during early morning and late afternoon, often joining mixed-species flocks.
This species is often heard before it's seen, as its distinctive chattering and whistling calls are a characteristic sound of its forest habitat.
