Spotted
Rosenberg's Emerald (*Polyerata rosenbergi*), also known as the Glistening-bellied Emerald, is a medium-sized hummingbird with dazzling iridescent green plumage, particularly on its belly, which appears distinctly glistening.
Where to spot
Typically found in humid evergreen forests, forest edges, and clearings in specific parts of western South America, often at lower elevations.
How to spot
Look for its overall shimmering green appearance, especially the iridescent belly. It's often seen darting quickly between flowers or perching on exposed branches in its habitat.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, with heightened foraging activity in the early morning and late afternoon. It can be seen year-round within its tropical range.
The 'glistening-bellied' descriptor comes from the highly iridescent green feathers on its underside, which brilliantly catch and reflect light, creating a shimmering effect.
