The Red-throated Barbet is a large, vibrant Asian barbet with a green body, and a striking red throat and crown, often bordered by blue and yellow markings. It is a common resident of lowland forests.
Where to spot
Humid lowland forests, forest edges, and plantations in Southeast Asia, including the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, and some smaller islands.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, resonant 'kut-kut-kut' calls. Look for its bright red throat and green body in fruiting trees or perched conspicuously in the canopy.
When to spot
Year-round; most active and vocal during the morning hours.
