Where to spot
Dry deciduous forests, scrublands, bamboo jungles, and rocky hillsides across most of India and parts of Nepal.
How to spot
Often heard before seen. Listen for its distinctive, repetitive call. They are shy but can sometimes be seen scratching for food on the forest floor near roads or trails. Keep a respectful distance.
When to spot
Most active during early morning and late afternoon, when foraging. They can be heard calling throughout the day, particularly during the breeding season.
