The Red-rumped Parrot is a vibrant and common parrot species native to southeastern Australia. Males are striking with their bright green and blue plumage and a prominent red rump, while females are duller green.
Where to spot
Widespread across southeastern Australia, found in open woodlands, grasslands, farmlands, and urban parks, particularly favoring areas near water.
How to spot
Males are easily identified by their bright red rump and blue wings. Females are duller. Look for them foraging on the ground in grassy areas. Listen for their soft, melodious 'chatter-chatter' calls.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often seen feeding on the ground. Most visible in the early morning and late afternoon. Resident species, observable year-round.
