Spotted
The Red-fronted Coua is a striking and agile cuckoo species, easily identified by its vibrant red facial patch and blue bare skin around the eye. Endemic to Madagascar, this bird prefers the island's humid forests.
Where to spot
Exclusively found in Madagascar, inhabiting humid evergreen forests, particularly in the eastern and northern parts of the island.
How to spot

When to spot
Active during the day, especially in the cooler parts of the morning and late afternoon. Best observed during the breeding season (October to March) when they are more vocal and visible.

Unlike many cuckoos, Red-fronted Couas are non-brood parasites, meaning they build their own nests and raise their young. They are known for their strong legs, which enable them to climb trees and move through dense foliage with ease.
