Humid lowland rainforests in the western Amazon of southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, and western Brazil.
How to spot
Scan the mid-story and canopy of tall forest trees, particularly near fruiting plants. Look for the male's vibrant purple throat, especially when illuminated by light. They are generally silent and hard to spot.

Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings when feeding on fruits.
