Spotted
Pringle's Puffback is a small, elusive bushshrike found in East Africa's dry acacia woodlands. It is characterized by its subtle plumage and the male's ability to puff up white rump feathers.
Where to spot
Endemic to dry thornbush and acacia woodlands of eastern Africa, primarily in Kenya and Somalia.
How to spot
Look for its relatively small size and subtle black and white markings. The male's puffing display is a key identification feature. Listen for its high-pitched, whistled calls, which can be hard to pinpoint.
When to spot
Most active during the cooler parts of the day, early morning and late afternoon.
Pringle's Puffback is often found foraging quietly in the dense undergrowth, making it a challenging bird to spot despite its distinctive features.
