The Three-streaked Tchagra is a distinctive bushshrike found in the dry thorny bushlands of East Africa. It is characterized by its pale supercilium and two additional pale streaks on its head, giving it its common name.
Where to spot
Found in dry acacia-commiphora bushland and thorny scrub in parts of East Africa (e.g., Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia).
How to spot
Look for its unique head pattern with three pale streaks against a darker crown. Listen for its high-pitched, thin whistled calls. Binoculars are helpful for scanning dense bush.
When to spot
Active during the day, often in the early morning or late afternoon. It can be difficult to spot due to its skulking habits.
The Three-streaked Tchagra is one of the smaller and more elusive tchagra species, preferring to stay hidden in dense thorny scrub.
