The Pearly-eyed Thrasher is a medium-sized, dark brown thrasher with a long tail and striking pale, almost white, 'pearly' eyes. It is an assertive and often vocal resident of the Caribbean.
Where to spot
Widespread across many Caribbean islands, including Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Lesser Antilles, and parts of the northern South American coast. Inhabits various habitats from forests to urban areas.
How to spot
Its dark brown plumage, long tail, and especially its pale, 'pearly' eyes are diagnostic. Listen for its loud, varied, often harsh calls and scolding notes.
When to spot
Easily observed throughout the day. Resident and active year-round.
