Where to spot
Humid montane forests and cloud forests throughout the Andes, from Venezuela to Argentina. Common at middle to high elevations.
How to spot
Easily identified by its climbing behavior on tree trunks and its distinctive scaled plumage. Listen for its high-pitched, accelerating trills, which are a good clue to its presence.
When to spot
Active year-round, typically during daylight hours. Its calls become more frequent during the breeding season.
