The Papuan Thrush (*Turdus papuensis*) is a distinct form of Island Thrush found in the highlands of New Guinea. It is a medium-sized thrush, generally dark brown to blackish with a yellow bill, adapted to high-altitude environments.
Where to spot
Inhabits montane and sub-alpine forests and scrublands across the central highlands of New Guinea, typically at higher elevations.
How to spot
Look for its dark plumage and yellow bill, which stands out. It often forages on the forest floor or in low vegetation. Listening for its varied, somewhat fluting calls can help locate it.
