Spotted
A small, rather plain reed warbler found across central Asia. It prefers damp habitats with low, dense vegetation, particularly rice paddies and marshy areas.
Where to spot
Breeds across Central Asia, from Eastern Europe eastward to China, inhabiting paddy fields, wet grasslands, and reedbeds. Winters in India and Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Look for a small, plain, warm buff-brown warbler with a relatively short, distinct pale supercilium and a dull, unstreaked appearance. It lacks the strong head markings of some other reed warblers. Its song is a fast, chattering, and quite monotonous series of notes. Often skulks in dense vegetation.
When to spot
Best observed during the breeding season (May-July) in its core range. Migrants can be seen during spring (April-May) and autumn (August-September) passages.

As its name suggests, the Paddyfield Warbler is frequently found in rice paddies and similar agricultural wetlands, where it finds abundant insect food and suitable dense cover for breeding.
