Spotted
The Oahu Amakihi is a common Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to Oahu. It is a small, yellowish-green bird with a slender, decurved bill, known for its active foraging among foliage for insects and nectar.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Found in native forests, mixed woodlands, and even some urbanized areas with sufficient tree cover, from lowland to high elevations.
How to spot
Look for this small, yellowish-green bird with a curved bill actively foraging among leaves and flowers. It is often seen probing for nectar. Listen for its distinctive short, high-pitched song, a series of rapid 'chips' or trills.
When to spot
A year-round resident, easily observed during the day. Active throughout the day, especially in areas with flowering trees.
Like its Hawaii Island counterpart, the Oahu Amakihi has shown some resilience to avian malaria and habitat changes, making it one of the more successful native forest birds on Oahu.
