Spotted
Nutting's Flycatcher is a neotropical species found in dry, open woodlands and riparian areas. It is closely related to and often confused with the Ash-throated Flycatcher.
Where to spot
Ranges from the southwestern United States (rarely) through Mexico and Central America to northwestern Costa Rica. Inhabits dry woodlands, riparian zones, and thorn scrub.
How to spot
Seek it in open woodlands, often near water. Identification relies heavily on its distinct voice, which differs from the Ash-throated Flycatcher, as visual differences are subtle. Note its slightly brighter yellow belly.
When to spot
Resident year-round in most of its range, with some northern populations showing slight migratory movements. Active during early morning and late afternoon.
