Where to spot
Endemic to northeastern Queensland, Australia, primarily found in dense tropical rainforests and wet sclerophyll forests.
How to spot
Listen for loud rustling in the leaf litter on the forest floor. Remain still and patient, as they can be shy. Look for their characteristic foraging style, vigorously kicking leaves aside.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day, particularly in the cooler parts of the morning and late afternoon.
Logrunners have strong legs and feet, which they use to kick aside leaf litter and debris with surprising force while searching for insects, creating a noticeable rustling sound.
