Spotted
The Nepal Cupwing is a small, almost tailless bird found in the dense undergrowth of montane forests in the Himalayan region. Its drab plumage allows it to blend seamlessly into its environment.
Where to spot
Dense undergrowth, mossy forests, and bamboo thickets in montane regions of the central and eastern Himalayas, particularly in Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of India.
How to spot
Like other cupwings, it is extremely difficult to see, staying low and hidden. Focus on learning its distinctive vocalizations, which are the primary way to detect its presence.
When to spot
Year-round, resident species. Most active and vocal in the early morning.
