The Mozambique Batis is a small and active insectivorous bird. Males are distinguished by a black mask, white supercilium, and a black breast band, while females have a rufous breast band and throat.
Where to spot
Found in southeastern Africa, primarily in Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, and eastern Zimbabwe. Inhabits coastal forests, woodlands, and riverine thickets.
How to spot
Search the mid-story and canopy of wooded habitats. Identify males by their black-and-white pattern with a black breast band, and females by their rufous throat and breast band. Listen for their sharp, repeated calls.
