Endemic to the Wet Tropics rainforests of northeastern Queensland, Australia, primarily at higher elevations in the mountains.
How to spot
Look for its small size and typically drab plumage, which helps it blend in. Listen for its soft, high-pitched calls. Often seen in mixed-species foraging flocks, moving quickly through vegetation.
When to spot
Active year-round. Best observed during daylight hours, especially in the early morning when activity is high.
It is a specialist of montane rainforests and often forages in the mid-story and undergrowth, meticulously searching for tiny insects among the leaves and bark.
