Endemic to the Chin Hills and other montane regions of western Myanmar and potentially adjacent parts of India. It prefers dense, humid montane evergreen forests with thick undergrowth.

Identification relies heavily on its unique vocalizations – a series of repeated, short whistles or trills. Look for it moving quietly among leaf litter and low vegetation on the forest floor.
