Spotted
The Many-colored Bushshrike is a stunningly variegated bird found in the dense rainforests of Central and West Africa. It displays a complex pattern of green, yellow, orange, and black plumage.
Where to spot
Found in lowland rainforests and mature secondary forests across Central and West Africa.
How to spot
Look for its intricate multi-colored plumage, particularly the orange-red throat and yellow belly against green upperparts. Listen for its distinctive, often churring and whistling calls, which can be the best clue to its presence.
When to spot
Active during daylight, but highly secretive. Often heard calling in the mornings.
Despite its flamboyant colors, the Many-colored Bushshrike is remarkably difficult to spot as it typically forages in the dense mid-story of primary forests.
