The Long-billed Minivet is an Asian species, closely resembling the Scarlet Minivet but distinguishable by its proportionately longer bill. Males are scarlet and black, females yellow and grey.
Where to spot
Found in broadleaf forests, often in montane areas, across parts of the Himalayas, Southeast Asia, and China. It can be resident or migratory.
How to spot
Scan the upper and mid-levels of forest trees. Carefully observe bill length when differentiating from other minivets. Listen for their typical minivet calls.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often seen in flocks high in the canopy. Can be observed year-round in resident populations, or seasonally during migration.
