Spotted
The Lemon-spectacled Tanager is a distinctive, heavy-billed tanager found in humid forests, notable for its bright yellow "spectacles" or eye-ring against an olive-green body.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests from eastern Panama through western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador.
How to spot
Look in the dense understory and mid-story of humid forests, often joining large mixed-species flocks. Their bright eye-ring is a good identifying feature. Listen for their somewhat harsh, chattering calls.
When to spot
A resident species, observable year-round in its range. Early mornings are best for activity.
