Lawes's Parotia is a medium-sized bird-of-paradise, famous for the male's spectacular courtship display and six ornamental head plumes. The male has glossy black plumage with iridescent green, bronze, and purple patches, and he clears a stage on the forest floor for his 'ballerina' dance.

Endemic to the central highlands of New Guinea. It inhabits montane forests, typically found at mid-elevations.
