Berlepsch's Parotia is a spectacular medium-sized bird-of-paradise, strikingly similar to Carola's Parotia, with the male featuring six ball-tipped head plumes and iridescent patches. It is primarily known for its elaborate courtship display on a cleared forest floor.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Foja Mountains of western New Guinea, inhabiting montane cloud forests. It is found at mid to upper montane elevations.

This species was long known only from a few museum specimens and was only photographed in the wild for the first time in 2007, making it a 'lost and found' treasure of ornithology.
