Spotted
The Large-billed Scrubwren is a small, plain-looking scrubwren found in the rainforests and wet eucalypt forests of eastern Australia. It is characterized by its noticeably larger bill compared to other scrubwrens, which it uses to probe bark and crevices for insects.
Where to spot
Found in rainforests and wet eucalypt forests along the east coast of Australia, from northeastern Queensland to eastern Victoria. It prefers dense undergrowth.
How to spot
Look for its plain brown plumage and, crucially, its relatively large bill. Listen for its high-pitched, often metallic-sounding calls. It often forages actively in the lower to mid-story of dense forests.
When to spot
Observable year-round. Active during the day.

Its large bill is an adaptation for its foraging strategy, allowing it to extract insects from places other scrubwrens might not reach.
