The Mexican Chickadee is a localized tit species found in the mountains of the southwestern United States and Mexico. It closely resembles the Carolina Chickadee but has subtle plumage and vocal differences.
Where to spot
Found in isolated mountain ranges of southeastern Arizona, southwestern New Mexico, and extending south into Mexico, typically in pine-oak forests at high elevations.
How to spot
Look in high-altitude pine-oak forests. Pay close attention to its calls, as they can differ from other chickadees, often a lower-pitched 'chick-a-dee-dee'.
