Jerdon's Bush Chat is a somewhat elusive species, typically found in tall grasslands and marshy areas. Males have a black head, white collar, and brownish-grey body, while females are duller.
Where to spot
Found in parts of South and Southeast Asia, specifically in India, Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia, inhabiting tall, damp grasslands, reedbeds, and often flooded plains.
How to spot
Search in dense, tall grasslands, often near water. It can be quite shy, often staying hidden. Males may perch on top of grass stalks or low shrubs. Patience and careful scanning are needed.

Year-round resident. Most active and vocal during the breeding season (typically during the monsoon or post-monsoon period) when males sing from tall perches.
