This African songbird is a denizen of dense, damp montane forests. It is generally shy and heard more often than seen.
Where to spot
Undergrowth of montane moist forests in East and Central Africa, particularly in Tanzania, Malawi, and parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
How to spot
Look for movement in the dense understory. Familiarize yourself with its varied song and calls, which are the primary way to locate it.
When to spot
Year-round resident, but vocalizations are more frequent during the breeding season. Dawn and dusk are prime times.
It's named after Dr. Friedrich Fülleborn, a German physician and naturalist, who collected specimens in East Africa.
